VAR rebrands to kick-start growth plans

Former IT-focused VAR Beckenham Business Systems changes name to Avita to reflect audio visual focus

VAR Avita Tech is eyeing aggressive growth after going through a major rebrand including a name change, and a new website and logo.

Formerly known as Beckenham Business Systems (BBS), the firm wanted its new name to reflect its increased push into the audio visual (AV) sector, hence its new moniker Avita Tech Ltd.

It is keen to grow turnover from a projected £2m in its latest financial year to £4m within the next 18 months.

The firm, which specialises in the legal, finance and construction verticals, has seen a 40 per cent increase in headcount over the past year, and is looking to take on more engineers to cope with customer demand in the year to come.

Avita has also developed its own technology offerings: email and web security offerings MessageAngel and WebAngel, and a backup offering called DataAngel.

Gary Duckman, who took over as managing director last year, said: "We had been an IT company for 15 years, but our AV business has been growing over the last six to seven years. The BBS name did not reflect that at all and Avita Tech gets both AV and IT in the name and is more reflective of what we do."

Duckman said the appointment of a dedicated AV director and manager in the spring had brought new vendor partnerships and is helping the firm win new deals.

"With the skills we have coming into the business, including Microsoft and Cisco, we have typically targeted SMB customers, but we can now start tendering for larger contracts," he said, adding that further recruitment is very much in the pipeline.

"We are expanding the company by up to 50 per cent over the next year and could well end up bursting out of our current premises," he added.
