Distributor STORDIS has signed an agreement with Edgecore Networks that will see the firm distribute Edgecore open network switches across Europe.
STORDIS has been distributing standard Edgecore switches for the last three years, but this official agreement will see STORDIS distribute the vendor's bare-metal and white box switches.
These switches differ from standard switches in that they are open network and come without a pre-loaded operating system (OS). The switches instead come preloaded with an open network install (ONI) environment which allows for the installation of different OSs.
Alexander Jeffries (pictured), CEO at STORDIS, expects more innovative resellers to adopt the technology before some of the bigger players in the channel move to open network switches.
"The whole idea of open networking is pretty new, so for resellers that are familiar with Linux - and feel comfortable with it and are looking for new opportunities - they'll be the early adopters because there is of course a learning phase.
"The big resellers won't be the most likely to take this on first because they will probably stick with the tier one brands until the really large end users start asking for them, but the more innovate resellers who like taking on newer products are certainly open to this."
STORDIS will carry a range of 1GB, 10GB, 40GB and 100GB switches and will offer 24-hour delivery times across Europe.
Edgecore, a subsidiary of Accton Technology, is a contributor to the Open Compute Project and Edgecore CEO George Tchaparian said that STORDIS' commitment to open computing was a factor in selecting the distributor.
Edgecore is also distributed in the UK through Electronic Product Services, Mayflex, Vesper Technologies and Zycko.
"STORDIS is the ideal distribution partner for scaling and growing our businesses in Europe," Tchaparian said.
"Their commitment to open networking solution integration and testing, and building expertise around our extensive open networking product line, gives STORDIS a high value-add needed for supporting resellers and their customers with hands-on knowledge, practical field application engineering advice, and real-world, positive customer experience."
