Acresso born out of Macrovision buy out

$200m private equity deal spawns new firm

The software business unit of US copy protection and licensing company Macrovision has been re-branded as Acresso Software after its buy out by private equity firm Thoma Bravo.

A cash transaction worth about $200m (£100m) was agreed on by Macrovision and Thoma Bravo earlier this year. The divestiture of the software business unit is now complete and Acresso will begin operating as a stand alone business.

Acresso chief executive Mark Bishof said: "We have a world-class investment partner in Thoma Bravo, an experienced, energized management team and employees dedicated to building a world-class software business singularly focused on making our customers successful. We are open for business and extremely excited about the future of Acresso Software."

Orlando Bravo, managing partner at Thoma Bravo, said: "Thoma Bravo looks forward to further strengthening the market leadership of Acresso Software, a company with 20 years of experience in delivering successful software solutions. "

Thoma Bravo principal Seth Boro added: "By leveraging the market leadership of Acresso Software’s existing product lines, Thoma Bravo will work with the company’s highly experienced management team to grow Acresso Software and deliver increased value for its customers.”
